Back up and restore
To save a backup, open Settings › Back up now (Settings is the gear on the Today screen). You can protect the file with a password; without it the file cannot be opened. Kitchen Table creates one .homeroll file with all students, logs, books, photos and test results. Save it to the Files app, iCloud Drive or a computer.
To restore on a new device:
- Install Kitchen Table and open it.
- On the first screen, tap Restore a backup and pick the file. You can also tap the .homeroll file in Files, Messages or Mail, or later use Settings › Restore from a backup file.
- Enter the password if the backup has one. Restoring replaces what is on the device, and Kitchen Table asks first if there are records there.
If iCloud sync is on, a new device signed in to the same Apple Account picks up your records on its own.
Moving to another state
Open Settings › State rules, tap Change and choose your new state. Kitchen Table shows the new state's days, hours, subjects and filing dates with their sources. Your logged history is kept: the school year before the move stays under the old state's rules, and a new year starts under the new state's rules on the day you switch.
Adding a second parent
If you both use the same Apple Account, turn on Settings › iCloud sync (Kitchen Table Pro). Your records then appear on every iPhone and iPad signed in to that account.
If the other parent has their own Apple Account:
- Open Settings › Back up now and send the file by Messages, AirDrop or email.
- The other parent installs Kitchen Table and taps the file, or taps Restore a backup on the first screen.
- Kitchen Table loads the records on their device.
A backup is a copy of that moment, and opening one replaces the records on that device. Send a fresh backup when the other parent needs to catch up. If you use Apple Family Sharing, the second parent gets Pro without buying it again.
Restoring purchases
Open Settings and tap Restore purchases in the Kitchen Table Pro section, on a device signed in to the Apple Account that made the purchase. For a Family Sharing member, make sure the purchaser has sharing turned on in their Apple Account settings. To manage or cancel a subscription, go to the iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
About state rules
Kitchen Table shows each state's published requirements with the public source and the date it was checked. It does not give legal advice. If a rule looks out of date, email the source link and we'll check it.
